For over a century, the State Capitol has been one of Utah’s most prominent landmarks. Designed by local architect Richard K. A. Kletting, the Capitol has been home to state government since its opening in 1916. The Capitol Rotunda is the perfect backdrop for corporate events and weddings alike!
Rotunda & Hall of Governors
The most iconic event spaces in the Utah State Capitol are the Hall of Governors and the Rotunda that soars high above the hall. Featuring elegant portraits of all our state’s former governors alongside truly magnificent Neoclassical architecture, it exudes class and elegance. The interior of the space is filled with ornate detail that was restored in the early 2000s to reflect its early-1900s charm. The Rotunda is decorated with eight incredibly detailed paintings depicting Utah history, hand-carved marble arches supporting the dome and a stunning chandelier hanging from the interior. The hall and Rotunda are a one-of-a-kind locale for corporate events, weddings or celebrations of any kind for up to 1,500 reception-style or 320 seated banquet-style.
Capitol Board Room & Conference Rooms
The Capitol Board Room is a large boardroom space that has an existing setup of a 20-seat boardroom table with 50 chairs along the exterior of the space, but that’s not all it can accommodate! You can rework the layout to host up to 50 guests. The claim to fame of this room is a lovely portrait of the Capitol Commission that directed the original design of the building in the early 1900s for a little taste of history. In addition to the boardroom, there are three additional conference room spaces that accommodate between 10 guests and 14 guests boardroom-style. They’re ideal for breakouts, meetings or training and can all be rented by the hour!
State Capitol Grounds
Beyond the main capitol building, there are also some magnificent outdoor spaces to host a variety of events. The beautifully restored grounds are all stunning, each with its own unique features. The North Plaza features walkways lined with Yoshino cherry trees, an introspective reflection pool, lovely gardens and sculptures of iconic individuals from Utah’s past. The East Plaza offers unparalleled views of the surrounding mountains as well as the Salt Lake City skyline. The West Plaza is home to the Utah Law Enforcement Memorial as well as the Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos Veterans War Memorial, which adds a somber yet magnificent touch to this area. You can also rent the South Steps! Each space has a capacity that ranges from 1,000 to 5,000 for large events of all sizes.
State Office Building & East Senate Building
Ideal for meetings and events, the East Senate Building and State Office Buildings offer nine spaces including the Seagull Room, Beehive Room, Aspen Room, Olmsted Room, Kletting Room and a variety of versatile conference spaces for all sorts of corporate events. Depending on the space, they feature existing boardroom setups for up to 20 or hollow squares for up to 36. But they can also change the configuration for classroom-style seating or cafeteria-style seating ideal for a catered lunch! Our LUX Catering & Events team can provide full-service options or drop-off catering for these spaces.
