21 May Celebrate World Whiskey Day in Utah… While you can!

Celebrating World Whiskey Day in Utah may sound like a tough goal, but we're here to enlighten you. However, surprisingly it might become harder to celebrate World Whiskey Day in the coming years everywhere. Did you know the global supply of single malt scotch whiskey is running out? In a recent article published earlier this year on Huffington Post, prices of single malt scotch are skyrocketing as the demand for this long-aging spirit are outpacing supply. Perhaps it's due to the rise in appropriation of turn-of-the-century, old school sensibilities to our modern life like beards, elaborate mustaches and good strong liquor, in addition to the increase in want of western culture items from foreign markets that can explain this exponential demand. This lack of supply could last upwards of 10-15 years while whiskey makers shuffle to keep up with demand. But rather than worry about tomorrow, let's focus on how to celebrate today. 03 Jul My Mom’s Potato Salad

With July 4th this weekend, we are at the height of summer. I am in heaven! While the 90+ degree days can wear you out, there is always a general eagerness for a delicious barbecue with your family and friends. Whenever I go to a barbecue at my parent's house I always have one request... Will mom be making potato salad? I am in love with this potato salad and I recently asked her for the recipe so I could share it with all of you! This potato salad is to die for! In essence: burly and rich from olive oil and mayonnaise, and brisk from pickles. If you forgo the hard boiled egg you don’t know up from down. Prepare it a day ahead for it's at its best when well-chilled and left to meld. Even better, it's easy to make! I’d walk you through it, but you know how to make this: Boil the potatoes; toss; mix; do as you do. Potato salad’s beauty is not in its technique. You’d be smart to make it for the Fourth, and every week thereafter, until the temperatures drop and the sun shines shorter. Always make extra -- you’ll want the leftovers -- and then spend the rest of the day outside. A note from mom: "enjoy!"

12 Apr Ultimate Grilled Cheese Sandwiches for National Grilled Cheese Day

Ultimate grilled cheese sandwiches are what's on the menu today to celebrate National Grilled Cheese Day! The traditional grilled cheese sandwich is a childhood staple, usually alongside a bowl of warm tomato soup. But now we're adults, and adults need some serious, gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches!

Cooking Tips for a Successful Grilled Cheese:

  • Use a seasoned cast iron skillet or a cast iron electric skillet to make grilling easier
  • Put a healthy pat of butter in the warmed pan and let it melt before grilling your sandwich
  • Aim for a low-medium heat so as not to burn your bread before your fillings are melted and cooked.
  • Cook each side about 3-5 minutes or until toasty, golden brown.

21 Mar Tour our Bakery for National French Bread Day!

It's officially French Bread day and we have the warm, familiar smell of baking bread wafting through our offices - only one of the benefits of having an in-house bakery in our building! Of course we have to have some history like we did for Croissant Day: did you know that following the French Revolution (a war that was started by the lack of bread), the French government actually set down laws that regulated what constituted "French Bread" or pain d' egalite ("bread of equality")? These laws specified ingredients and baking methods. Today, however, french bread is characterized as a long loaf of bread with a thick, golden crust that should crackle when squeezed. Plus, it's delicious!
